The drive worked for about 2 weeks, then may have had a failure. went to the manufacturer's website for warranty service. The customer support from Oyen Digital was OUTSTANDING! I am a retired USAF Communications and Information Squadron Commander. 20 years in the IT business and I have never been so impressed with a company's customer service as I was with Oyen Digital. Amazon has sold defective items in the past and they have good support at times. This drive is an older model and I upgraded to the newer version and it is FAST, impressive capacity, and reliable. I will be getting a second drive.I really wanted to like this product because it is quality construction, but I bought it because I wanted forced-air cooling, and after trying out the product I realized that the fan is totally useless for two reasons. First is that the fan is very small and runs at a relatively low rpm so it doesn't have much air flow capacity. Second is that there is no air inlet anywhere on the case to allow air to be pulled into the case and across the drive. The fan is pulling on a sealed case! No air flow can be felt at the fan outlet when the drive is running.And unfortunately from a temperature control perspective, it gets worse. The AC/DC converter is built into the case, so all the heat generated by the converter further heats the drive. And the fourth heat control issue is that the case is plastic rather than metal. Plastic holds in heat much better than metal.My overall assessment is that this case is among the worse possible for keeping a hard drive cool. In fact, it most likely makes the drive get hotter than any other case out there.Avastor HDX PRO external drive enclosure has 1 10gbit Type C Main port that is used to connect the enclosure to the computer. It has a 2nd 10gbit Type C Hub port to connect other USB devices in a daisy chain. These are separately channeled high speed interfaces permitting Excellent data transfers! The unit has a built-in fan & power supply. Just carry/connect the power & data cables. The interface high speed transfer permits the drive to transfer data at its native capacity without being limited by the interface. Great enclosure for my 12TB Seagate drive I use for backing up my data on my Windows 2016 Server. Very portable, USB 3.0 Gen 2 (10gbits/s). Easy to take drive off-line via Windows Computer Management (closes any residual open file OS hooks), then dismount via USB Device eject to prevent any data file corruption during drive shutdown/disconnect. I connect/discount this drive for backup purposes, not online constantly in case of malware, ransomeware, fire, etc...Steven F. SutherlandIt came packed in an Amazon plastic bag. I should have been worried right then and there, and I was. I hook it up to my computer, powered it on and it was plug and play like advertised. BUT, after 3 minutes off it goes. Disconnected from the computer. I checked the cables, everything was secure, and powered it back on. Came back up, then a few minutes later, off it goes again. I tried to copy files to it, get maybe 1GB transferred and it disconnects. I get Windows errors that there is a problem with the drive, scan it and Windows can't fix it. Try another program to scan it, it keeps disconnecting every 4 to 5 minutes. This one will be getting shipped back. Don't waste your time or money!And don't waste your time trying to deal with the company's "customer service". A total waste of my time and energy trying to get a replacement. They told me, "return it through Amazon" when I asked them to provide me with a label and customs forms. Any packages shipped to or from an APO or FPO address require a customs form, yet they "couldn't" do it. More like didn't want to be bothered dealing with the piece of garbage that they sold me.This case has proper cooling lacking in other cases.Also, USB C is easy to set up and is daisy chainable when using Thunderbolt.Seems rugged and well built. Does have a fan that is audible when running, not super loud though. It is not ideal for run and gun activities where speed and easy set-up are a necessity as the unit needs to be plugged in to an electrical outlet in order to operate. It also does not seem as fast as a portable ssd.However, it seems to be the perfect drive for a stationary home base location and it really is well built and a smooth running device.Sturdy, quiet, and vibration free. I got a second one to daisy chain and both work great - they stack on one another very well.This is a GOOD can. It uses a proper A/C Cord, it's easy to install a quality HD, and the fan keeps the platters cool, increasing the life expectancy.
